Just Stuff We Love

From baby toys and cool threads to store openings and things to do with your little one. We cover the new, the old favourites and the best-kept secrets for everything baby.

Sugar-free Vitamin D

Vitamin D is the only nutrient missing in breast milk. Since babies aren't exposed to sufficient sunlight (the primary source of vitamin D) to get the recommended 400IU they need for good health, breastfeeding mothers should supplement. It's always bothered us, however, that most vitamin D supplements are loaded with sugar. That's why we were happy to discover Baby Ddrops.

Baby Ddrops are preservative-free and have no artificial flavor or color. One drop of Baby Ddrops has 400IU of vitamin D and is mixed with an oil-based solution that is similar to a fat naturally present in breast milk.

Place one drop on a pacifier or your nipple prior to feeding and your baby will receive his vitamin D needs for the day. Once your baby is eating solids you can add Ddrops to his food.

(We also love that the company is 100% Canadian.)

Cute Clothes for Boys

Why should girls have all the fun–or at least all the cute clothes? After Grace MacCall's son Dexter was born she became discouraged by the lack of choice in boy's clothing (especially in Canada). Lucky for us, she decided to do something about it and launched TykeThreads.com earlier this year. With lines like Knuckleheads, Appaman, Ben Sherman and Kid Brother, your son never has to suffer from clothing envy again. Plus, most of her Canadian labels are organic.

As a special offer to Just the Facts, Baby readers, Tyke Threads is offering 10% off any orders until August 31, 2009. Just enter the coupon code 09WMUM05.

A Unique Gift Idea For Father’s Day

If the thought of getting dad another power tool to celebrate June 21st seems less than exciting, we've found a gift solution. Dimples Forever launched in November 2008, making keepsake jewelry for moms with fingerprint charms. Last month, they decided to do something for dad and have added silver cufflinks and key chains to their line up.

The company will mail you an impression kit within 72 hours of placing an order. Then, take your child's finger or toe and press it into the non-toxic impression area (it's a food lubricant similar to olive oil). Once the impression has been made, ship the tray(s) back in an easy-to-mail prepaid envelope to Dimples with instructions for engraving. Two to three weeks later your gift will arrive.

The cufflinks are perfect for dads of two. If you have just one tot, you can do a finger impression on the left and a toe on the right. (Just The Facts, Baby Readers will get 10% off any orders placed prior to June 30, 2009.)

Baby in the Hood

Our boys end up out of a hooded towel about five seconds after they exit the bath. So we love Bébé Au Lait's new toddler hooded towels. Hidden magnet closures on either side of the hood keep the toddler towel in place. Plus, the ultra soft cotton terry cloth fabric is lined in a choice of 10 fashion-forward fabrics so it looks as good as it feels. Baby versions are also available for 0 to 24 months in generous sizing–perfect for swaddling.

Big Kid Bedding

Wish you could find quality kids' bedding that's fun and affordable? Your wish is their command (the "they" being Natalie and Ali, two stay-at-home moms who launched Wish Bedding when they couldn't find cool sheets for their kids that would hold up in the wash). The two women now shop the world for the best in kids' bedding. Their criteria? Innovative patterns, high-thread counts, quality yarns and affordable price points. Our favorites include: the Construction collection for boys and Butterfly collection for girls. Wish Bedding even offers bedding shopping tips, fabric information and laundering strategies under "Bedding 101" on their site. wishbedding.com
